The Straight Stitch machine is optimized for precise straight stitching. With its fixed needle position, the Straight Stitch machine is ideal for perfect, efficient straight stitches when working on a wide range of sewing projects such as clothing, bags and other DIY projects as well as quilting. The bernette 08 Straight Stitch comes with a stitch length of up to 6 mm, a fast and powerful direct current motor (DC motor), a smooth-running transport mechanism and intuitive controls that facilitate easy handling. The user-friendliness, high performance and durability make it the ideal choice for both beginners and experienced sewers.

The b08 Straight Stitch is equipped with a direct current motor (DC motor). What advantages result from this?

The direct current motor (DC motor) offers the significant advantage of high performance at low speed, as the required power is achieved by the motor at any speed in the shortest possible time. This means that the b08 Straight Stitch holds its power at any speed. With the b08 Straight Stitch, slow sewing stitch by stitch is therefore also ideal for heavier materials such as leather or several layers of fabric.

Due to the DC motor, the helpful “needle stop up/down” function can be used, as the needle position can be specifically controlled via the electronics. This allows the needle to be stopped precisely at the bottom and the fabric to be turned around the needle when changing direction.

Can I use a standard needle for domestic sewing machines for the b08 Straight Stitch?

As a high-speed sewing machine, the b08 Straight Stitch requires needles specially made for this type of machine. We recommend the use of Schmetz High Speed HLx5 needles with a flat shaft. The slightly rounded point ensures that it is possible to sew through a variety of materials at high speed without damaging the fabric. The needles are available in different sizes:

  • Needle sizes 65, 75: For lightweight fabrics
  • Needle sizes 75, 90: For medium-weight fabrics
  • Needle sizes 90, 100: For heavyweight fabrics
  • The use of needles intended for household sewing machines is not recommended.

Can I use the same thread both for the upper thread and the bobbin?

Yes, the same thread can be used for the upper thread as well as for the bobbin thread regardless of the thread thickness.

The bobbin is made of anodized aluminum. Anodizing makes the aluminum particularly corrosion-resistant and increases the strength of the material. This keeps the bobbin visually attractive and makes it extremely long lasting.

Which presser feet are included in the scope of delivery of the b08 Straight Stitch?

Two presser feet are supplied with the b08 Straight Stitch: the Straight Stitch Foot and the Narrow Straight Stitch Foot.

The Straight Stitch Foot is generally used for both lightweight and heavy fabrics. The special foot features a flat underside that ensures even pressure on the feed dog and a rounded needle opening. This design helps to avoid skipped stitches and reduces puckering.

The Narrow Straight Stitch Foot is an ideal alternative to the standard Straight Stitch Foot. Its streamlined shape makes it a fantastic tool for sewing piping or borders, allowing you to work with precision and to achieve a professional look.

I would like to quilt with the b08 Straight Stitch. Can I lower the feed dog?

In order to be able to quilt with the machine, the feed dog is masked with the Darning Plate. Therefore, the feed dog does not need to be lowered. The darning plate is available either as an individual set together with the darning foot or as part of the Quilt Making Set.
